Off the coast of Perak State, north from Selangor, lies a cluster of fabulous islands with some of the best coves and beaches on the western coast of peninsular Malaysia. Among them, two islands dominate in terms of accessibility, infrastructure and development - the largest of them all, Pangkor, and her smaller sister Pangkor Laut. Forty minutes by ferry from Lumut, a popular resort of Pulau Pangkor (Pangkor Island) welcomes visitors with its serene golden beaches, crystalline blue waters, and cool refreshing breezes. Located about 90km south west of lpoh, it is largely inhabited by fisherfolk. Nevertheless, the modern facilities make it a perfect getaway. A wide range of outdoor activities is available such as scuba diving, wind-surfing, fishing or snorkelling.

Things to see and do
Foo Lin Kong Temple
The Foo Lin Kong Temple is a fairly new Taoist temple, build at the foot of Pangkor Hill in the village of Sungai Pinang Besar. There is a nice hillside garden to admire as well as a miniature of Chinese Great Wall (Chang Cheng).
Kali Amman Temple
While you are in Sungai Pinang Kecil, you might like to visit the Kali Amman Temple, which is the largest and the only significant Indian temple on the island. It is noted as one of the two Indian temples in Malaysia that have the shrine of the goddess Kali (the other is located on Penang Island).
Pangkor Forest Reserve
One can admire exotic flora and fauna, like rare orchids, monkeys, colourful butterflies and birds, including hornbills. Trekking up the Pangkor Hill is a perfect way of completing the day.
Pasir Giam Beach
One of the great places of interest in Pangkor Island is beautiful Pasir Giam Beach, which faces the small island of Giam. It is situated only 2km (by road) north from Teluk Nipah.
Dutch Fort (Kota Belanda)
At Teluk Gudang lies the 300-year-old stone foundations of a Dutch Fort built in 1670. It was one of the Dutch strongholds against pirates and Malays. The fort was abandoned after an attack of a local warrior, Panglima Kulub, and his followers. Muzium Negara undertook its reconstruction in 1973, but today only the stone foundations and carvings in a large rock have remained.
