Live your tropical dream.
The entire Sipadan-Kapalai Resort is built on stilts on the sand, over the shallow water. There is an abundance of marine life just below its wooden walkways, making it the resort’s true attraction, along with the stunning panoramic sea view.
Kapalai is located near to the coast of Semporna, a small fishing town in Malaysian Borneo. It is reachable within minutes fom Sipadan Island, a legendary spot well known in diving circles, and its equally famous neighbour, Mabul Island.

Getting there
The Island is located in the Celebes Sea, off the coast of Borneo. It is in Malaysia’s most eastern state, Sabah, and can be reached within half an hour by speedboat from the closest town on the mainland, Semporna. The closest airport to Semporna is in Tawau, approximately 1 hour away. Your resort can arrange transport (usually by air-conditioned minivan) from the airport to Semporna.
Speedboats to Mabul depart from Semporna, a small fishing town on Malaysian Borneo, and trips there and back are arranged by the resorts. The boat trip takes around 20-30 minutes.
Scuba Diving
There are about eighteen dive sites around the island, and packages include three boat dives a day. Be sure to take advantage of the unlimited house-reef dives –specially around the unique wrecks such as the old chalet that has been carefully sunk close to the dive centre’s jetty.
Some of the creatures that you can expect to encounter are dragonets, fire gobies, partner & sleeper gobies, wasp or leaf fish, gurnards, sea-moths, crocodile fish, giant frogfish, ribbon eels and harlequin ghost pipefish.
Apart from this macro paradise, be sure to take the chance to dive at the nearby island of Sipadan, famous for its incredible wall diving and many turtles, sharks and massive barracuda schools. Diving in Sipadan requires an additional payment of RM 40 conservation fee per person per day.
Other activities
There are no televisions in the rooms, but for those that want to be in contact with the world, satellite television is available in the games room, together with wireless Internet.
The Malaysian province of Sabah has a wide range of tourist attractions (see http://www.sabahtourism.com/ for more information).
The Sipadan-Kapalai Resort
Entirely surrounded by water, the elegantly constructed wooden village of the Sipadan-Kapalai Resort is the ultimate escape. The rooms are comfortably furnished and spacious, with colourful woven decorations adding a rustic, traditional touch.
The restaurant serves three delicious buffet meals daily. Tables are set around an opening in the deck where you can observe large schools of fish.
This resort is very conscious of the environmental issues and tries to minimise own negative impact. Hydro phonic water treatment systems ensure that no sewage goes into the surrounding water and other waste is being recycled.
